Weekend Race Report (8th & 9th May 2021)
Although in the event racing on Saturday morning might have been possible, the forecast of heavy rain and a F6 Southerly put everyone off so at 09:20, N over A was displayed!
Sunday morning was a whole different ball game with a gentle F3 Southerly and occasional blue patches in the sky.
Four Redwings and three One-Designs rigged up and made their way to the start at Janson.
All had agreed that there would only be one race, so the Redwing course was initially Janson – Tara three times with the One-Designs the same but only twice.
It was not long before Colin Samuelson in Toucan was out in front and never looked as if he was going to be overtaken; indeed he extended his lead as the race progressed and the windward mark was changed to Spy Alarm (E).
Mike Toogood in Tara and Jonathan Nainby-Luxmoore in Snowgoose had quite a ding dong race, with the later just finishing ahead. Richard Jessel in Blue Jay was fourth.
Jos Coad in No 8 was ahead of the other two One-Designs coming up to Tara on the first round, however for reasons that only he knows, he then hit the mark and had to take a penalty. This provided James Beart in No 5 the opportunity to take over the lead which he held onto to the end of the race.
Charles Evans, single handed in No 10 was third.”
