Diana Bown (here just 1-year-old)
With Diana’s help, we’ve also been very lucky to speak to some of our other members, who were kind enough to share some of their stories.
You can read about how Mary Seymour remembers her father Pug Ismay, Winston Churchill’s Chief of Staff, and how Pamela Watson-Lee celebrated VE Day in Liverpool (armed with her hockey stick!), and how Anne Tidbury used to entertain anti-aircraft gunners with by playing them music, and why the War caused some fearsome rows at the Club from Jane Flower.
We also have spoken with Anne Biddle, Anne Sprigman, Iain Eaton, Mary Janson, Jeremy Cuddigan, Philip Bown and Sally Pigot about their memories of what the country was like during the war, and for most, the joyous celebrations experienced on VE Day on the 8th May 1945.
On behalf of the Flag Officers and all members of the Bembridge Sailing Club, I would like to thank Diana and all the contributors for this fascinating and poignant collection of memories and photographs.
Please Stay Safe as we face our own trials with Covid19 and lockdown.
With every best wish.
